The ultimate local’s guide: Best restaurants in Indian Shores

One of the things I love most about hosting in Indian Shores is watching guests realize they do not have to leave the area to eat incredibly well. You do not need to battle Clearwater traffic or drive miles for a memorable dinner. Some of the best meals on the Gulf Coast are just minutes from our direct Gulf front condos.

As someone who truly loves food and has lived here long enough to try just about everything, I have narrowed it down to the places I confidently recommend again and again. Whether you are craving fresh seafood, Mediterranean flavors, or something casual after a beach day, this is where I tell my guests to go.

1. Salt Rock Grill

If you are celebrating something special, or just want a memorable night out, Salt Rock Grill is always at the top of my list. It sits right on the Intracoastal, and the setting alone makes it worth the visit. The atmosphere is sophisticated but still welcoming. I usually describe the dress code as beach casual. You will see people dressed up a bit, but it never feels stuffy.

Before dinner, I love grabbing a drink near the outdoor fire pits overlooking the water. It sets the tone for the evening. Locals know to arrive early for their Early Bird Supper Club menu. It is one of the best dining values in the area, but you really do have to get there when they open.

When I go, I often recommend their oak grilled steaks, but their crab cakes are exceptional. The calamari is thick cut and perfectly cooked, which is surprisingly rare.

2. DJ’s Clam Shack

If you want incredible seafood without the formal atmosphere, DJ’s Clam Shack is a favorite. It is small, relaxed, and completely unpretentious. You can walk in wearing flip flops after a morning on the sand and feel perfectly comfortable.

Their Hot Connecticut Style Lobster Roll has won awards for a reason. It is generously packed with fresh lobster and served on a perfectly toasted roll. The garlic butter clams are another standout. The broth is so good that people joke about drinking it straight from the bowl.

This is one of those places I recommend when guests want high quality seafood without a long, drawn out dinner.

3. Turkish Flame Mediterranean

Sometimes after a few days of seafood, guests tell me they are ready for something different. That is when I suggest Turkish Flame. It is one of Indian Shores’ true hidden gems. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, and it feels like stepping into a quiet Mediterranean escape.

The mixed shawarma and lamb kebab are both excellent, and the baked hummus is unlike the typical cold version most people expect. It is warm, rich, and incredibly flavorful. It is a refreshing change from beach bar fare and a great option for a calmer evening.

Waterfront dining room at Columbia Restaurant near Indian Shores

4. Columbia Restaurant

While technically a short drive north, Columbia Restaurant is always worth mentioning. It is Florida’s oldest restaurant, and dining there feels like stepping into history. I always suggest requesting a table by the window if you can. Watching the sunset over Clearwater Harbor while your meal is prepared tableside is something special.

You cannot leave without ordering the Famous 1905 Salad. It is tossed right at your table with their signature garlic dressing and Romano cheese. The Cuban sandwich and roast pork dishes are classics. And the warm Cuban bread with butter is not optional in my opinion.

5. The Original Crabby Bill’s

If you want that true Old Florida fish house experience, Crabby Bill’s is the place. It is lively, casual, and full of personality. After a long beach day, this is exactly the kind of place where you can unwind.

Their Chicago Style Baked Oysters are one of my personal favorites. The combination of parmesan, garlic butter, and seasoning over fresh oysters is hard to beat. Their clam chowder has been a local staple for decades, and the cocktails always feel generous.

6. VIP Mexican American Grill

For something colorful and fun, I often send guests to VIP Mexican American Grill. The portions are large, the atmosphere is vibrant, and the patio is a great place to spend an evening.

Their Wet Burritos are famously oversized and covered in rich sauce and melted cheese. It is the kind of meal that makes you laugh when it arrives at the table because of the sheer size. The margaritas also tend to keep the mood lively.

Experience the Best of Indian Shores

One of the things I always tell my guests is that part of the magic of a Gulf Coast vacation is discovering your own favorite spot. Whether you are in the mood for upscale waterfront dining or a messy bucket of crab legs, you are never more than a few minutes away from something memorable here.

After a day of exploring these local flavors, there is nothing better than coming back to your private balcony, watching the sunset over the Gulf, and relaxing in your own space. That is exactly why I love hosting here. If you are ready to experience the best restaurants in Indian Shores Florida, I would love to welcome you.
