Why Treasure Island, Florida is the perfect girls trip destination
Planning a Treasure Island Florida girls trip is one of the easiest ways to turn a simple weekend getaway into something relaxed, scenic, and actually fun for everyone.

Spending a week on the Florida Gulf Coast with kids is not just a vacation to me. It is something I see families experience over and over again, and it truly becomes a memory factory.
The calm Gulf waters, soft white sand, and endless family friendly attractions make planning Florida Gulf Coast activities for kids surprisingly easy.
I have hosted families with toddlers, tweens, and teens, and I have seen firsthand what works and what actually keeps everyone happy. If you are planning a full week here, this is the kind of itinerary I usually suggest to my guests.
Before we get into the daily breakdown, let me share a few tips I always tell families staying at my condo.
First, choose your home base wisely. I truly believe Indian Shores is one of the best spots for families. It sits right in the middle of everything, so you can explore Clearwater, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, and St. Pete without spending half your trip in the car.
Second, take advantage of the PSTA Suncoast Beach Trolley. It runs along Gulf Boulevard from Clearwater Beach down to St. Pete Beach. Kids love riding it, and it saves you from dealing with parking.
Third, mix free experiences with a few splurge activities. The Gulf Coast offers both. You can enjoy incredible beach days that cost nothing, then add in a dolphin tour or aquarium visit without blowing your budget in the first two days.
I always tell families to start simple. The Gulf side is famous for its calm waters and shallow shoreline. Unlike the Atlantic coast, the waves here are gentle and predictable, which makes parents feel much more relaxed.
Some of my favorite beach day ideas include:
If you are staying in one of our beachfront condos, the biggest advantage is proximity. You do not have to pack the car or plan a big outing. You can walk out, enjoy a few hours on the beach, and come back easily for lunch or naps.
In the evening, many families head to Pier House 60 in Clearwater for street performers and sunset views, then grab dinner along Mandalay Avenue.

If there is one experience kids talk about all year, it is dolphin watching. The Florida Gulf Coast is full of eco friendly boat tours where you can see bottlenose dolphins in the wild. It feels magical every time.
On these tours, families often spot:
For younger kids especially, a 60 to 90 minute dolphin cruise is the perfect length. Most tours depart from Clearwater Beach or St. Pete Beach.
I also recommend visiting the Clearwater Marine Aquarium at least once during the week. It is a working marine animal hospital focused on rescue and rehabilitation. You can easily spend two hours there, especially in the dolphin complex with its large viewing windows.
Midweek is usually when families want something playful and high energy. The Gulf Coast is full of mini golf courses, arcades, and small boardwalk areas that keep everyone entertained without feeling overwhelming.
Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf is always a hit with younger kids. It is pirate themed, partially shaded, and even has live alligators in a safe enclosure.
After mini golf, I often suggest heading to Johns Pass Village and Boardwalk in Madeira Beach. It has casual restaurants, ice cream shops, surf stores, and boat rentals. Teens often enjoy parasailing or jet ski rentals nearby. It creates a full afternoon of activity without needing to drive across the county.
By Thursday, I usually suggest balancing the week with something quieter and more nature focused.
One of my favorite spots to recommend is the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores. It is one of the most unique free activities on the Florida Gulf Coast. Families can walk along the beachfront property and see rescued pelicans, owls, eagles, and other birds that are cared for on site.
Admission is completely free, and kids love climbing the observation tower overlooking the Gulf. Another option I love recommending is Fort De Soto Park. It consistently ranks among the best beaches in the country. Kids can explore shallow tidal areas where small fish and crabs gather, and older children enjoy exploring the historic fort structures.
For families with teens, guided kayak tours through the mangroves are incredible. Paddling through quiet back bays while spotting manatees and turtles feels like real Florida.

Even though sunshine is part of the charm here, I always tell families to have one indoor backup plan. St. Petersburg has great options for that. Families with younger children love Great Explorations Children’s Museum, which focuses on hands on learning and imaginative play.
Older kids often prefer escape rooms, bowling centers, or movie theaters. Planning one indoor day keeps things flexible in case of summer storms or just when everyone needs air conditioning.
As the week builds, this is usually when families are ready for something more adventurous. The calm Gulf waters make beginner friendly water sports accessible. Depending on your family’s comfort level, you might consider:
Fishing charters from Madeira Beach or Clearwater are beginner friendly and include equipment and instruction. Parasailing over the Gulf is surprisingly smooth because of the stable wind patterns. It is also a great day to book a sunset cruise. Seeing the coastline from the water gives the whole week a memorable finish.
On the final day, I always suggest resisting the urge to over schedule. Let each child choose one favorite activity to repeat. Maybe it is one last early morning swim, another round of mini golf, or one more stop for ice cream.
Indian Rocks Beach and Madeira Beach both have wonderful casual breakfast spots with Gulf views. Johns Pass is also a great last stop for souvenirs and family photos. Sometimes I suggest a quiet visit to Pass A Grille for an old Florida feel before heading home.
Over the years, I have noticed different age groups light up for different reasons.
Toddlers love Fort De Soto’s tidal pools and playgrounds. The Seabird Sanctuary is stroller friendly and calm. Kids between five and twelve truly enjoy everything. Dolphin tours, the aquarium, mini golf, and wildlife experiences are all big hits.
Teens tend to appreciate kayak adventures, parasailing, and exploring downtown St. Pete’s food scene. The Pier and rooftop views are often favorites.

Hosting families here has shown me that Florida’s Gulf Coast with kids really is one of those rare travel experiences where everyone leaves happy.
You get calm beaches, incredible wildlife encounters, free activities, and bucket list adventures like swimming with manatees. Seven days is never quite enough, but it is a wonderful start. If you are ready to plan your own Gulf Coast week, I would love to host your family and help you make it unforgettable.
Beach days, dolphin tours, mini golf, marine life centers, and nature preserves are top choices for families.
