Best Area to Stay in Treasure Island Florida: Neighborhoods and Rental Options Explained

When people ask me the best area to stay in Treasure Island Florida, my answer usually starts with a question. Do you want walkable restaurants and activity right outside your door? Or a quieter residential sunset vibe? Or something scenic with fewer crowds?

Treasure Island is only about four miles long, but each section feels slightly different. Picking the right neighborhood makes the difference between a good trip and the kind of trip where you start checking next year’s calendar before you leave.

Here is how I break it down for visitors.

Mid Island: The Most Convenient Area to Stay in Treasure Island Florida

If you want the most practical and balanced option, mid island is usually the best area to stay in Treasure Island Florida.

This stretch runs roughly from 104th Avenue to 119th Avenue along Gulf Boulevard. It is the widest part of the beach and the most walkable section of the island. Restaurants, bars, and beach access points are clustered here, which means you can park once and forget about your car.

Gulf Front Park sits right in this zone, offering ADA beach access, restrooms, volleyball courts, and chair rentals. It is the most fully equipped public access on the island.

You are also close to:

For families and first time visitors, this is the easiest choice. Everything is within walking distance. The beach is wide. The water is calm. The sunsets are unobstructed.

Sunset Beach: The Quiet Local Favorite

At the southern tip of Treasure Island sits Sunset Beach. This is where I send couples or anyone who says, “We just want to relax.”

Sunset Beach feels more residential. Fewer large hotels. More private homes and smaller condo buildings. The energy is slower, especially outside of peak spring season.

The scenic boardwalk loop through the dunes offers one of the best sunset walks on the island. On Sunday evenings, the drum circle at Gulf Front Park is just a short drive north, but Sunset Beach itself stays peaceful.

If your idea of a vacation is morning coffee on a balcony, long beach walks, and minimal noise, this is your section. It is still close to everything, but it feels intentionally removed from the mid island buzz.

Sunshine Beach and the Northern End: Scenic and Less Crowded

The northern section, often referred to as Sunshine Beach, sits closer to John's Pass Village & Boardwalk.

This area offers beautiful views toward the pass and slightly fewer crowds compared to mid island. It is a good option if you want easier access to John’s Pass restaurants, fishing charters, and dolphin tours while still staying on Treasure Island.

Parking and public amenities are more limited here, so staying in a beachfront rental with direct access becomes more important.

If you want a balance between calm beach time and quick access to activity hubs, the northern end makes sense.

Condo vs Hotel: What Most Visitors Get Wrong

I've stayed in both on Treasure Island, and I'd like to give you a genuine, honest comparison rather than a promotional one because the right choice depends entirely on what kind of trip you're taking.

A hotel is a good choice for two or three nights, for travelers who want housekeeping and a front desk and poolside service without thinking about it, and for anyone attending an event where the hotel's location is the priority. Hotels like Bilmar Beach Resort provide full service convenience and on site restaurants. They are great for short stays.

But for trips lasting more than three nights, a private condo is usually the better choice. The price per night for a comparable beachfront condo is often lower than a comparable hotel room once you factor in the savings on meals.

And a beachfront condo gives you:

  • A full kitchen for breakfast or casual dinners
  • Separate bedrooms for families
  • A private balcony facing the Gulf
  • More space to actually relax

When you're traveling with kids, having more space than a hotel room offers is not a luxury, it's a necessity to keep your sanity. After a full day in the sun, having a living room instead of just a bed changes the experience.

For families, couples staying a week, or anyone who wants that true home base feeling, condos are usually the smarter move. Check availability for our Treasure Island condo rentals

So, What Is the Best Area to Stay in Treasure Island Florida?

The main difference between my first trip to Treasure Island and every trip since is that I knew where to stay before I booked. The island is small enough that no location is really inconvenient, but the neighborhoods are different enough that choosing the right one for your specific trip makes a difference every day.

My general rule is simple: mid island for convenience, Sunset Beach for quiet charm, and the northern end for quicker access to John’s Pass. And for any trip long enough to actually unpack, I would choose a condo over a hotel every time. If you make the right decision up front, the rest of the trip tends to fall into place.

If you want beachfront access, walkable dining, and sunset views right outside your door, a well located Treasure Island condo gives you the island the way it is meant to be enjoyed.
